Halo Co-Creator Opens New Studio Dedicated To First-Person Games

The co-creator of the hit FPS series Halo, Marcus Lehto, has announced that he will be heading an entirely new studio at EA. The game developer has a long history with the FPS genre, and some obvious success with a massive series like Halo under his belt, and will once again be working on that genre for EA.

As reported by Game Informer, Lehto co-created Halo and went on to start his own studio back in 2016 called V1 Interactive with SOCOM co-creator Michael Gutmann. This studio went released Disintegration, which received a pretty lukewarm reception. V1 Interactive closed its doors earlier in 2021, but Lehto is already back and ready to make games once again under EA's publishing.

Lehto took to Twitter to share the news, saying: "Hey everyone, I'm very excited to announce that I've joined EA as a Game Director, building a new studio in the Seattle area working on first-person games. I can't wait to share more about what we're creating!"

And the reception has been a lovely one - even the Halo Twitter account has responded saying, "Spartans excelling is always going to be in the cards. Onward and upward!" Cute, right? Or maybe not cute - I'm not sure if Spartans are really the cute type.

Of course, as Lehto says, he will once again be focusing on the first-person genre. The games he has worked on in the past, from Halo to Disintegration, have a very space-age feel to them. They're about aliens, robots, and big mechanical machines to steer or take down. It wouldn't be a surprise if that's what he turned to here too, so be on the lookout for anything thing that looks or feels a little like that.
