Laurence Fishburne might not be returning for The Matrix 4, but the iconic actor is reuniting with his old friend and co-star Keanu Reeves for the next John Wick adventure.
Fishburne first appeared in John Wick Chapter 3 - Parabellum as The Bowery King, the leader of an underworld of criminals who live and operator outside of the control of the High Table. The character didn't have much screen time in the last film, sadly, but Fishburne has assured fans he'll have more to do in the latest instalment.
Take a look at the trailer for John Wick Chapter 3 below to refresh your memory of Keanu's last outing as the action hero!
As you may remember, the closing moments of the last film saw Wick, on the verge of death, delivered to The Bowery King for protection. Needless to say, the fourth film will dive deeper into the implications of this, and how the relationship between the two characters has evolved.
"I should be going to Berlin within another couple of months or so," Fishburne told Collider, while promoting his new film The Ice Road. "I read the script. It's really, really cool. As much as it's the same world as the other three films, it's just deeper. It's much deeper in terms of the code of the assassin. And the relationship that he has with one character in particular who I think Mr. Watanabe is playing...is really the heart and soul of it."
Series creator Derek Kolstad added that he's not involved with the fourth or fifth movies. "No. At a certain stage of the studio will tell you, your creation is graduated, and you wish it well," he explained. "I'm still close with Chad [Stahelski], still close with Dave [Leitch], and I don't know what's going to happen, but I'm excited to see."
John Wick 4 is currently eyeing up a May 27 2022 release date, assuming the world is able to continue on its long road back to normality. It'll star Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Bill Skarsgård, Donnie Yen, and Rina Sawayama.
