After an accident on the set of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, actor Letitia Wright has been hospitalised to treat her injuries.
The sequel to the super successful movie was confirmed three years ago with director and co-writer Ryan Coogler returning to tell another of the "many, many stories" about the character.Chadwick Boseman's passing from colon cancer shocked cast and crew as well as fans who weren't aware of his illness, yet Marvel was adamant that the role would not be recast. "This is one of the more profound things that I've ever gone through in my life," said Coogler in a podcast earlier this year. "Having to be a part of keeping this project going without this particular person. Who was like the glue that held it together."
Ahead of the launch of Marvel Avengers' War For Wakanda DLC, we got the chance to chat to Christopher Judge about embodying the character of Black Panther. Check it out below!
One of the changes that came from the loss of Boseman is that Shuri, T'Challa's younger sister, will be given a more central role than in the original movie. Shuri is played by Letitia Wright and recent reports place her at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, shooting scenes with actor Dominique Thorne. With credits in If Beale Street Could Talk and Judas and the Black Messiah, Thorne will be playing Riri Williams.
"Letitia Wright sustained minor injuries today while filming a stunt for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," said a Marvel spokesperson in a statement supplied to Comic Book. "She is currently receiving care in a local hospital and is expected to be released soon."
Details on what happened are light on the ground but it appears that she was working on a stunt rig when something went wrong and she got hurt. Fortunately, she'll be discharged from the hospital soon and the injury is unlikely to have pushed the production schedule backwards.
"The only thing I can tell you is that in 2022 you're gonna see a lot of me," said the actor on her work in the Black Panther sequel and more in an interview. "You will probably get annoyed with me because I'm in everything, but, alas, I do this for the craft and because I love you guys."
