Nintendo, out of the blue without fanfare or even a Nintendo Direct has just revealed its next Switch - The OLED Model. Releasing on October 8, 2021, this new Switch is the so-called Switch Pro that we've all been talking about for months while waiting patiently for a reveal. Now we know it's both real, and just around the corner.

The press release for the new console reveals that this new and improved Switch will be similar to the size of the original but will have "a larger, vibrant 7-inch OLED screen with vivid colours and high contrast". It too will have a stand for a tabletop mode, an improved version of the doc and a new wired LAN port so that online gaming will be a more stable experience.

Here is the announcement video...

It seems that the Joy-Cons are going to be the same, this Switch will be the same transportable device we know and love but with some more features to improve the overall gaming experience. The Verge has also reported that the console will have 4k capabilities when it is connected to the TV.

When the console releases in October 2021, it will come in two colours - the "Nintendo Switch (OLED model) white set, which features White Joy-Con controllers, a black main unit and a white dock" and then the classic Neon Red and Neon Blue variant which the original Switch launched with. The console will cost $350 upon release.

If you are thinking of upgrading, you will be able to take both your digital data and your Joy-Cons over with you onto the new system. Nintendo has a page dedicated to showing you how you can transfer everything you need to a new console.

October 8, 2021, was already exciting for Nintendo fans as it's when Metroid Dread is set to release - a new Switch only sweetens the deal.
