It looks like the free PlayStation Plus games for October 2021 have once again leaked ahead of their official reveal, leading me to wonder why Sony bothers announcing them at all at this point.
Last month's free games were seen as a significant step up for a lot of subscribers. In September, it was revealed that Overcooked! All You Can Eat would be the free PlayStation 5 title, while Hitman 2 and Predator: Hunting Grounds were made available for the PlayStation 4. Obviously not all three games were for everyone but... well, you can't win 'em all can you?
With that said, October is looking pretty promising already. According to a recent leak from French website Dealabs, which has accurately reported on PS Plus leaks in the past, the next three free games are: Hell Let Loose, Mortal Kombat X, and PGA Tour 2K21.
That is, to put it kindly, another odd mix of games. We've already seen a mountain of evidence to suggest that Team17's World War II shooter Hell Let Loose will be the PlayStation 5 freebie, and it should be a solid addition. Last week I wrote about why Hell Let Loose is a big win for subscribers, although PlayStation 4 users are getting a much less enticing deal, it has to be said.
Mortal Kombat X isn't even the most recent entry in the series for a start, which is doubtless going to irritate players who already own Mortal Kombat 11. Why would anyone want to take one step back when the latest game is still being supported with new content? As someone with very little interest in golf, I can't speak for PGA Tour 2K21. I'm sure some of you will be thrilled by this one, but more of you will probably be baffled.
As always, take this with a pinch of salt until we get official confirmation tomorrow. But given Dealab's track record, I wouldn't be surprised if these do turn out to be October's free games. Sorry, PlayStation 4 users.
