But multiplayer seems to be on the way.

It certainly sounds like The Last of Us Part 2 isn't getting DLC. In a conversation with MinnMax Show, journalist Jason Schreier has revealed that although Naughty Dog thought about doing DLC (a bit like The Last of Us's Left Behind story) the team does not have anything in the works at the moment.

Jason Schreier, who has extensively covered the studio Naughty Dog, was talking on the podcast about his recent story covering Sony's current obsession with blockbuster games and how that's affected upcoming projects for PlayStation. Along the way, the journalist mentions that Naughty Dog is working on a The Last of Us remake while another project still hangs out in pre-production - the staff at Naughty Dog need something to do. And during this discussion, Schreier adds a throwaway comment about how the studio did think about making DLC for The Last of Us Part 2 but those plans seem to have fallen through.

"If you're a bunch of people at Naughty Dog - you finish The Last of Us 2," says Schreier. "Neil Druckmann and some other creative people go off in a room somewhere and say "what do we want to make next? Let's figure it out". So you have hundreds of people at the studio who don't have a lot to work on. There's this multiplayer thing that they're doing - I don't know what stage that is in, but I doubt it needs everybody.

"That's a stand-alone multiplayer thing. I believe at one point they were thinking about DLC but I don't think that happened. Don't hold me to that they might still do something, I don't know. But they had a bunch of people who still needed work and so it was an elegant solution" to put these staff on The Last of Us Remake.

So we've learned that The Last of Us 2 multiplayer still seems to be in the works somewhere, and no one really knows what that's going to look like, but Naughty Dog hasn't indicated that it's still working on a DLC for Part 2. Sony properties have gotten used to releasing secondary adventures in engines they've created now. Think back to The Last of Us: Left Behind, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Uncharted: Lost Legacy as examples, so it's a surprise that there doesn't seem to be a plan for DLC for one of the biggest games Sony has released on the PlayStation 4.

Well, not all hope is lost, it does seem that Naughty Dog could still create something, but this far after the original release of the game, it's beginning to look unlikely it'll ever get round to the project. Thanks, GamesRadar+.
