Pokémon: The First Movie Still Leaves Kids In Tears, Adorable Video Proves

Sigh. Me too, kid.

Pokémon: The First Movie was a formative cinema experience for an entire generation of children (myself included). While large parts of the anime show's first feature-film don't really hold up to objective criticism as we get older, there's no denying the emotional impact of that one particular scene in the movie.

I am of course referring to the famous scene towards the end of the movie when our hero Ash Ketchum, horrified by the savage battle between the "real" Pokémon and Mewtwo's army of clones, sprints into the thick of it in an attempt to get everyone to stop fighting. In a moment that shocked the world (or at least all the kids of the world), Ash finds himself caught in a crossfire that turns him to stone, effectively killing him.

I'm sure we can all agree that seeing the lead character of a light-hearted anime based on a video game suddenly lying dead on the floor was seriously devastating, and it was made all the more gut-wrenching when Ash's faithful companion Pikachu desperately tried to revive his friend with blasts of electricity - to no avail while everyone watched on helplessly. I'm welling up just thinking about it.

Of course, all of the assembled Pokémon then decide to have a bit of a cry over the tragic situation, which somehow brings Ash back to life. That part sounds pretty dumb when I write it out, but it had a profound effect on all the kids who watched it the time, sharing as it did an important message that no matter what we might look like on the outside, we're all the same on the inside.

You'll be glad to know that even two decades later, kids of the world seem to be responding to Pokémon: The First Movie in the same way we all did when we were youngsters. In a truly touching video posted to Twitter, @MynorRodriguezz showed the reaction of their young nephew to the film's most iconic moment.

Understandably, the poor kid is an emotional wreck, as he falls onto the bed with tears in his eyes. Check it out for yourself below - I think we can all relate, can't we?

MynorRodriguezz even took the opportunity afforded by the video going viral to encourage viewers to donate some money so they could treat their nephew to some Pokémon treats, and soon uploaded a new video showing one very happy kid in a store cradling his new Bulbasaur plush and a Jigglypuff toy. You love to see it, you really do.
