‘Red Dead Online’ Players Are Using A Bridge To Catapult Themselves Into Space

Red Dead Online players are having a whale of a time catapulting themselves into the air at supersonic speeds, thanks to a very glitchy bridge.

For starters, the rickety bridge in Pike's Basin doesn't look stable. It looks like even the slightest gust of wind would cause it to tumble into the valley below, and even laying the colossal weight of your cowboy hat on its planks would make it splinter instantly. It just so happens that if you throw a load of hatchets onto the end of the bridge, it starts stuttering and shaking like it's in the eye of a twister. Step onto it while it's wiggling, and it will send the player flying into the sky, with hilarious and sometimes energy-efficient results.

Firstly, the glitch was a source of pure merriment and folly, while players waited for the next content update for the game to roll out. Then, a competitive edge rose up, with friends attempting to outdo each other's records for the furthest distance the bridge could launch your character. Further experiments ensured, and players discovered that injured horses could be healed if they were bounced on the bridge, which is inherently counter-intuitive, but it is also a made-up Wild West game. Another group tried to fit as many players as possible on the bridge in a synchronised spring, but it turns out it's only able to vault a few players at a time.

The main "purpose" of the bridge glitch is to discover where you end up after plummeting back to Earth. One player found themselves in an utterly barren desert, and it looked a lot like an abandoned sci-fi set. Getting major Westworld vibes from these screenshots, for sure. Others have gamed the system, and with a little luck, punted themselves into Mexico for a wander round.

Nuevo Paraíso, the region from the original Red Dead Redemption, might have been included in the prequel and its accompanying multiplayer mode. However, it was ultimately removed by Rockstar Games, and though it should be inaccessible, players are still exploring the very literal ghost towns. We should expect the studio to patch the glitch out soon, but it has offered a huge amount of entertainment for the time being. Plus, flying to Mexico (free of charge and within mere minutes, might I add) for a scenic tour of 19th century architecture is an enviable achievement in 2020.
