As per this week's news, The Mandalorian's showrunner Dave Filoni was promoted to become the executive creative director of several Star Wars projects, but fans twigged that there is one TV show missing from the pile.

Of course, Filoni has proven his chops on the brutal-bounty-hunter-turned-fretful-father-figure adventure, and on the animated series The Clone Wars, which is one of the most beloved entries into the Star Wars canon. Ergo, he's been with the company for over fifteen years, and this is a natural progression and recognition of his impact on the direction of the biggest sci-fi franchise of recent times. Filoni and Jon Favreau will be collaborating on The Book Of Boba Fett and Ahsoka, two upcoming shows that we at GAMINGbible are especially excited for. However, Rangers of the New Republic is said to be "not currently in active development."

New Republic, Old Republic; why isn't there a Middly Republic? Probably because that title is terrible. However, this does give me an opportunity to let you know that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 3 is in the works... get the low down below.

Here's the thing - FIloni's promotion isn't new news. This occurred last summer, according to Variety's sources, but Lucasfilm took its time to update its own website which is why it was suddenly plastered over the Internet. As a result, Filoni's promotion has nothing to do with the stalling of Rangers of the New Republic. The most viable theory is that the controversy surrounding actress Gina Carano has meant that the show is requiring serious rewrites if it is to get off the ground again.

Carano, who plays Cara Dune in The Mandalorian, was sacked by Disney and Lucasfilm as she compared sharing her political opinions to the persecution of Jewish people by the Nazis in Germany. "Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future," said the company at the time. "Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable." It's generally thought that Rangers of the New Republic was going to centre on Carano's character as she was a shock trooper in the New Republic before she became a mercenary.

Furthermore, Disney and Lucasfilm have their hands full with The Bad Batch, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor and so on. It's possible that the company is focusing on these, then will return to Rangers of the New Republic when it isn't such a hot potato. Seeing as there is no official statement on the matter, speculation is as good as we get here. However, we'll update you as soon as we know anything more about the Star Wars spinoff.
