‘Street Fighter V’ Tournament Commentary Gets Replaced With Fart Sounds

Fragrant news from Kotaku here, who report that a Street Fighter V match, during a tournament organised by the Street Fighter subreddit r/Streetfighter, had its regular commentary subbed for... fart noises.

Competitors Dee Ancer and FGC Jesus, both playing as the character F.A.N.G, had made it to the tournament's final, no less. But the commentators, clearly not all that interested in a F.A.N.G-vs-F.A.N.G match-up, decided to lean rather heavily on a fart button, rather than provide any insight into what was unfolding on screen.

You can check out their flatulence in the clip below - or if it doesn't play for you, find it here on Twitch itself.

Now, as funny as this might seem - and be fair, it is a bit - it didn't sit well with the players. Kotaku reports that FGC Jesus was not amused, and took to Twitter to express his opinion on the commentators' use of the farts.

"No more reddit tournaments for me," he writes, adding in later tweets that the "commentary was very distracting and kind of hurtful". For what it's worth, he later received apologies from the relevant parties, including the tournament organiser Joe Munday, and confirmed that "they really did make me feel better about the situation".

In related Street Fighter news, long-standing series producer Yoshinori Ono (a delightful guy, who I had the pleasure of meeting a few times) has stepped Capcom's wildly successful franchise, after the best part of 30 years with the famous Japanese studio. As reported by Eurogamer, he expressed sadness at leaving, but was looking forward to "seeing the new Street Fighter brand and how it's going to be expanded, as just one of regular gamers next time". Street Fighter 6 is rumoured to be coming in 2022, for next-gen consoles (which will just be 'this-gen' by then, obvs).
