'The Simpsons' Producer Wants A 'Hit And Run' Remaster, But There's A Catch

The Simpsons Hit & Run remaster we all so desperately crave just came one inch closer to becoming a reality... and several inches towards never actually happening at all.

Matt Selman, who serves on The Simpsons as producer and writer, admitted he "would love" to see the iconic 2003 GTA clone re-released on modern consoles. Typically, that kind of support would be all we need for just such a project to be given a greenlight. Unfortunately, Selman explained that it's not as simple as all that. I suspect you've already worked out why: corporate nonsense.

"I would love to see a remastered version of [The Simpsons Hit & Run], I would," Selman told IGN. "It's a complicated corporate octopus to try to make that happen."

The Simpsons Hit & Run remains a beloved game - and one of the most hotly requested remasters today - for good reason. The 2003 game deftly combined GTA-style mayhem with the cartoonish world of Springfield to fantastic effect. The game's multiple open-world areas were filled with in-jokes and moments from the show, so much so that you could ignore the main missions altogether and simply drive around terrorizing Hans Moleman until you got bored. Bliss.

It's unclear where exactly the difficulties lie in getting a remaster off the ground, but I imagine part of it is in the fact that original developer Radical Entertainment no longer exists. With that said, are we really saying Fox couldn't find another studio willing to make a modern Simpsons game in the style of Hit & Run? It doesn't even have to share the same name or anything else to do with the original game! Just give us more open-world Springfield action, and I'm relatively sure we'll all be happy.
