Twitch's Hot Tub Meta Taken Over By Otters, And We're Fine With That

Twitch's Hot Tub Meta Taken Over By Otters, And We're Fine With That

Otter unexpected turn of events.

Following Twitch's hot tub meta over the last few weeks sure has been a ride. We've seen controversy, confusing guidelines, streamers going on the attack, and women defending their right to make money on the platform by sitting in a tub and chatting to folk.

Twitch itself finally responded, and launched a new category that aims to ensure that hot tub streams have their own home. The Pools, Hot Tubs, and Beaches category is pretty much what you'd expect it to be... although it has already thrown up some unexpected delights.

Take a look at some of the best - and funniest - Twitch wins and fails below!

As first spotted by Rock Paper Shotgun, a group of genuinely adorable otters have managed to climb the ranks of this new category, simply by floating around in their enclosure with their lil' tums up in the air. It turns out Vancouver's Marine Mammal Rescue Centre has been streaming animals in the Travel & Outdoors category for months now, but the otters have taken their "THICCEST FUR" to find success elsewhere.

Obviously this is a markedly different kind of stream to ones hosted by the likes of Amouranth, and while I think there's room for all kinds of entertainers on Twitch, I know which one I'm leaning towards right now. I love me some otter, and watching them swim around all day is a delightful way to spend some time on a busy Tuesday.

As I write this, the otters are currently fast asleep and snuggling together, and my heart feels fit to burst just looking at 'em. You can check in on the stream for yourself here, and I thoroughly recommend it. Even just leaving the stream open while I get on with other stuff, I can hear the gentle lapping of the waves and the occasional low snore of an otter. I needed this today. Thank you, otters. I love you very much.
