UFC Boss Wants To Turn Competition Into Private Island Beat 'Em Up

The sporting world has pretty much been brought to a standstill thanks to current global events, but that isn't stopping it from trying new ways to keep things going. UFC president Dana White is reportedly looking to secure a private island so that the organisation can continue hosting fights.

It's unclear whether or not White has been playing a bunch of old video games, but fighters from around the world dropping onto an island to compete for supremacy sounds like the stuff of classic beat 'em ups. Hell, it's basically the exact plot of the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie - although I don't expect there to be any fatalities in this instance. Well, I hope not anyway.

According to TMZ, White is close to securing a deal so that he can continue hosting and broadcasting MMA bouts "every week" from UFC's very own private "fight island". He confirmed on Twitter last night that Justin Gaethje would go head to head with Tony Ferguson in a main event on April 18th at a top secret location.

"I am a day or two away from securing a private island," White explained to TMZ. "I have a private island that I've secured; we're getting the infrastructure put in now, so I'm gonna start doing the international fights, too."

"With international fighters, because I won't be able to get international fighters into the U.S., I have a private island that I'm gonna start flying them all in and doing international fights from there. So as of April 18th, the UFC is back up and running."

All fighters and medical staff will apparently be screened before being flown out, and the matches will be taking place without a live crowd present. With a private island in a secret location, a film crew, and some of the most talented fighters from around the world gathered, White could host the world's first televised IRL battle royale instead. Maybe the winner could get the only flight home or something?

I can't imagine that will happen for all number of ethical reasons, but these are unprecedented times we're living in, so... you never do know really, do you? We'll just have to wait until April 18th to see what happens. Until then, I refuse to rule out battle royale.
