Mortal Kombat 1 players find trick loophole to gain free skins

Mortal Kombat 1 players have discovered a trick to get a load of skins without having to spend real money.

Despite all of its success, Mortal Kombat 1 has been relentlessly slated by fans for its microtransactions.

Take a look at Omni-Man's gameplay in Mortal Kombat 1.

The latest entry in the gruesome fighting games franchise has introduced some of the best graphics we’ve ever seen in the series so far, plenty of fresh and gory fatalities, and some spectacular DLC fighters. Invincible’s Omni-Man recently joined the fray, and will soon be followed by The Boys' antagonist Homelander, though Anthony Starr has confirmed he won’t be providing the voice for the character.

Unfortunately, all of this goodness has been bogged down by in-game purchases, like the recent holiday-themed fatalities which cost an extortionate $10 for just one finishing move. NetherRealm attempted to quell the outrage by announcing some free downloads, but now more microtransactions are simply exacerbating the rage of fans.

During the game’s first season, players could buy skins with in-game currency, with NetherRealm saying once the season ends they’d be gone for good, only to re-release them this season and charge actual money for them.

Luckily, clever fans have found a workaround. A player on PS5 posted a tweet claiming the content from the last season of the game could be purchased with in-game currency by “changing the date on your PS5 to any date BEFORE 6 November.”

You then grab what you want and change your consoles date back to the present day and you should keep everything you purchased, without having to spend your hard-earned cash to get it.

It’s unknown if this is only possible on PS5 or if it can be replicated on other platforms, and as far as we’re aware the trick is still working so if there’s anything you want to grab from last season, now’s the time.

Mortal Kombat 1 is available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC and Nintendo Switch.
