One of the strangest controversies of 2021 kicked off earlier this month, when DC made the strange and unusual claim that Batman refuses to go down on his girlfriends. Some hero, right?

It all started in a Variety interview with Harley Quinn co-creators and executive producers Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker. The duo discussed the challenges inherent in creating an R-rated show with well-known DC characters. They revealed that while DC was usually game for letting them run rampant, Batman was strictly off limits.

Before we go on, take a look at the upcoming Batman game Gotham Knights below. Batman is dead in this one so (almost certainly) won't be going down on anyone.

"In this third season of Harley we had a moment where Batman was going down on Catwoman," Halpern explained. "And DC was like, 'You can't do that. You absolutely cannot do that.' They're like, 'Heroes don't do that.' So, we said, 'Are you saying heroes are just selfish lovers?' They were like, 'No, it's that we sell consumer toys for heroes. It's hard to sell a toy if Batman is also going down on someone.'"

Needless to say, this resulted in an outpouring of memes and jokes from Batman fans and creators, almost all of whom agreed that Batman absolutely does go down and that DC is way off base.

Justice League director Zack Snyder was one of the many creators on the side of Batman performing cunnilingus, and even tweeted out his own extra special "Snyder Cut" of Batman... enjoying Catwoman. Unsurprisingly, Warner Bros. was less than thrilled about Synder sharing this particular vision of the two characters, and hit him with a takedown. The tweet, in which Snyder states simply that the image is "canon" still exists below. Unfortunately the imae has been replaced with the message: "Media Not Displayed - This image has been removed in response to a report from the copyright holder.
