A rumour that Dwayne Johnson would be cast as Kratos in the upcoming God Of War TV show has been put to rest by the game's director.

A rumour that Dwayne Johnson would be cast as Kratos in the upcoming God Of War TV show has been put to rest by the director of 2018's God of War.

The live-action adaptation would see the story of God Of War (2018) be retold through a TV show by Amazon Prime Video. The show is still in early stages of development, and there’s been no official word on who will be part of the cast, though many of the game’s cast are interested in returning.

That hasn’t stopped rumours from running wild though, with fans sharing their top picks for who should play fan-favourite characters like Kratos, Atreus, Mimir and Freya. The latest rumour though was that Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson was being strongly considered for the lead role, which has since been debunked by none other than Cory Barlog.

Barlog directly responded to the rumour saying, "I have literally never heard anything about this.” While he didn’t give any indication of who’ll actually be playing Kratos, it does confirm The Rock wasn’t in the running for the character. It’s safe to say fans were pleased to see the rumour be shot down, many of which were in agreement that Dwayne Johnson shouldn’t be anywhere near the character of Kratos.

“Good. Don’t want him ruining a good franchise. He’s charismatic but he’s not a good actor… and, he likes to control too much. Look at Black Adam for example,” said one fan. "Anyone else a bit sick of seeing The Rock in what seems like everything?” added another, while someone said, "Thank god. The Rock's ego would have probably ruined the show. He has charm, but he is not an actor. He doesn't really play characters, his characters play him.”

The God Of War live-action show should be finding its way onto our screens in the next couple of years. What we do know is it’ll reportedly see the same attention to detail that The Last Of Us show received, being a faithful adaptation that’s reworked slightly to appeal to new and old fans.
