God Of War Ragnarök becomes most BAFTA nominated game in history

It’s been a while since we last spoke about God Of War Ragnarök. Last year, the finale to Kratos’ norse saga landed with a bang and by bang, I mean it very quickly became the fastest-selling PlayStation exclusive of all time - nabbing the title from The Last of Us Part II.

It’s no surprise then that God Of War Ragnarök absolutely swept up at The Game Awards. The latest game from Santa Monica Studio garnered a whopping 10 nominations and ended up taking home six accolades on the night including best action/adventure game, best narrative and best actor for Christopher Judge as Kratos. Well, the game’s run of success isn’t over just yet. God Of War Ragnarök is now the most BAFTA nominated game in history.

God Of War Ragnarök totally dominated the BAFTA Games nominations, accruing - prepare yourselves - an incredible 14 nominations. The record was previously held by Returnal which garnered eight nominations last year. God Of War Ragnarök received noms for animation, artistic achievement, audio achievement, best game, game design, music, narrative, performer in a leading role for both Christopher Judge (Kratos) and Sunny Suljic (Atreus), performer in a supporting role for Adam J. Harrington (Sindri), Danielle Bisutti (Freya), Laya Deleon Hayes (Angrboda), and Ryan Hurst (Thor), plus technical achievement. It’s also up for the fan-voted EE Game of the Year award.

Clearly, God Of War Ragnarök’s talented cast played a major role in helping the game achieve this record number of nominations. Stray ended up nabbing eight nominations, followed by Elden Ring with seven. A Plague Tale: Requiem, Horizon Forbidden West, Immortality, Tunic and Vampire Survivors all earned five, while Citizen Sleeper followed with four.

The BAFTA Games ceremony falls on 30 March and will be livestreamed on the BAFTA Twitch channel. I’m guessing it’ll be another lucrative night for Santa Monica Studio and PlayStation.
