God Of War Ragnarök's Thor voted PlayStation's best new character

God Of War Ragnarök's Thor voted PlayStation's best new character

Thor has been voted 2022's best new character on PlayStation - beating Odin, the cat from Stray, and Elden Ring's Malenia for the win.

Just in case it didn’t pick up enough accolades at The Game Awards, God of War Ragnarök has now swept up a bunch more in the PlayStation Blog’s annual awards.

Despite its great success at The Game Awards earlier this month, Ragnarök failed to take home the coveted Game of the Year award - it lost to Elden Ring in the battle of the video game titans. It’s managed to redeem itself in the PS Blog’s annual awards, though, as it's won both PS4 and PS5 Game of the Year. No one can say that it doesn’t deserve it.

While you’re here, check out this bizarre ad for Ragnarök below, which stars Ben Stiller as Kratos.

That wasn’t all, though. In the category for Best New Character, Ragnarök’s Thor stole the thunder from his dad Odin, the cat from Stray, and even Elden Ring’s Malenia. Yes, the cat from Stray was a real contender here, and came in second place. It’s unsurprising to see Malenia so high on the list - anyone who’s fought her will no doubt have been reminded of her name several times before managing to beat her.

God of War’s Thor has been popular since day one - it didn’t take long at all for him to be hailed as “the best Thor in all media”, which I imagine Chris Hemsworth will have some thoughts about. Given that God of War is now canon in the MCU, it begs the question of whether Marvel’s Thor is aware of the game and the fact that so many people prefer Sony’s version of him. Would he be offended? Or does the MCU’s God of War actually have Hemsworth’s Thor in it instead? I need answers, Kevin Feige.

As for the other PlayStation Blog award categories, Ragnarök also took first place in Best Story, Best Graphical Showcase, Best Art Direction, Best Audio Design, Soundtrack of the Year, Best Accessibility Features, and Best Use of DualSense. Whew, that was a lot.
