Gran Turismo film drops first trailer

Gran Turismo film drops first trailer

Gran Turismo stars Archie Madekwe as Gran Turismo enthusiast Jann Mardenborough, who aspires to be a real race car driver.

Continuing what has truly been an eventful year for video game adaptations, the first trailer for the Gran Turismo movie has dropped, and yup. Those are some speedy cars.

I can’t be the only one who was incredibly confused as to how they were going to make a Gran Turismo adaptation back when the film was first announced. Sure, racing movies are very much a tried and tested thing, and can be great fun, but what makes this specifically Gran Turismo? Well, it’s less that the film is based on the game series, and more that the games play an important role in the plot (which is based on a true story, at that). Teenage gamer and Gran Turismo enthusiast Jann Mardenborough (played by English actor Archie Madekwe) aspires to be a real race car driver, and is mentored by Jack Salter (played by Stranger Things star David Harbour) to do just that.

Take a look at the trailer for Gran Turismo right here.

With the new trailer, we finally have our first glimpse of the cast in action, and things are looking pretty dang good. The film also stars Orlando Bloom (more like Orlando Vroom, am I right?) as Danny Moore, who’s a motorsport marketing executive.

Now, obviously this is the second video game adaptation based on a PlayStation game to release this year - the first being The Last of Us TV series, which makes you wonder how it’ll compare. To be honest, I can’t imagine Gran Turismo having the same impact as a lengthy series based on one of the greatest video game stories of all time, but that doesn’t mean that it won’t be good fun. Perhaps I should reserve judgement for now.

Gran Turismo will be speeding onto cinema screens on 11 August 2023, so there’s only a few more months to wait.
