GTA 5 free to download and play right now, just not for everyone

Grand Theft Auto V is once again free to download for Xbox Game Pass subscribers after rejoining the subscription service.

Yet to try out Grand Theft Auto V? Do you feel left out by the building GTA VI hype? Maybe you’ve just misplaced your copy and would like to sink back in the game after a lengthy break? Well, I have some good news. GTA V is, as of today, once again available on Xbox Game Pass and is available to download for free for subscribers.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers can enjoy GTA V right now on cloud and console. Unfortunately, Rockstar Games’ classic title is not available on the PC version of Xbox Game Pass. GTA VI rumours are more prevalent than ever. In fact, Take-Two Interactive teased that a major release was on the way between April 2024 and April 2025. It’s certainly possible that it could be GTA VI. What we all really want is a trailer, but diving back into GTA V will have to do as a little treat to keep us occupied. There are also several other games that’ll soon be joining Game Pass.

Take a look at some of our favourite Grand Theft Auto V wins and fails.

Sword and Fairy: Together Forever also joins cloud, console, and PC today. The synopsis reads, “Enter a realm that blends ancient mythology with traditional Asian aesthetics in Sword and Fairy: Together Forever! Weaving its tale between the three clans of Human, Deity, and Demon, it puts you in command of a memorable party of characters, each with unique personalities, motives, skills, strengths, and weaknesses.”

On 6 July, you can enjoy McPixel3 on cloud, console, and PC, followed by Common’hood across all three formats as well on 11 July. The former is a “mind-blowing save-the-day adventure” while the latter is a “squatter settlement simulation game”. Also on 11 July, Insurgency: Sandstorm - “a contemporary conflict through a series of intense co-op and PvP multiplayer modes” - bursts on to PC only.

Day one release Exoprimal joins cloud, console, and PC on 14 July in which you’ll be able to fight against hordes of dinosaurs. A preview for day one release Techtonica then drops on 18 July on cloud, console, and PC, in which you will be required to “master automation, gather resources, research new technologies, mold the destructible terrain, establish a base of operations, and uncover long-forgotten secrets.”

Finally, The Cave lands on cloud and console on 18 July too and is a new adventure game from Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert. So much to look forward to.
