I have some good news and some bad news for you today, dear reader. I’d ask you what you’d like to hear first, but sadly, you have no choice in that. Sorry.
Well, the good news, as you’ll have gathered from the headline, is that Rockstar are apparently finally focusing fully on GTA VI, according to a prominent leaker and a report from Kotaku. That doesn’t mean we’ll see any of it anytime soon, mind you, but reportedly, there’s a bit more attention being thrown its way.

So, what’s the catch? Unfortunately, it seems that two highly requested remakes may have been ditched as a result. The games in question are GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption, which, if true, really sucks - the amount of Unreal Engine fan-remakes of the latter should be enough to tell you that a lot of people want to see it happen.

“As per a reliable source with clear accuracy on Rockstar plans, remasters of GTA IV [and] RDR1 were on the table a few years ago, but Rockstar chose not to proceed with the projects in mind,” insider @TezFunz2 wrote on Twitter. “The poor reception of the Trilogy DE might be a reason behind that decision.”
If you’re one of the people who’d have liked to have seen these older titles get a bit of love though, there might be hope yet. Kotaku reports that, as well as the leaker’s claims being accurate, the remasters aren’t completely “out of scope” forever - they might still happen, but only after GTA VI is out in the wild. Fair enough.
Obviously though, we currently have no way of determining quite how long that’ll be - with no trailers (or actual official title, for that matter) in sight, we could still be years away from GTA VI’s release. That said, given the state of GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, which released last November, maybe some more time in the oven could do these other potential remakes the world of good.
