GTA 6 fans are furious over recent Take-Two Interactive tactics

As we edge closer to the highly anticipated release of GTA VI next year fans are hyped as Rockstar Games publisher Take-Two Interactive will already have caught the scent of making all the money its launch will bring.

Following months of rumours and speculation, Rockstar Games finally revealed Grand Theft Auto VI to the world with its first official gameplay trailer in December 2023. Within days, hours even, the GTA VI trailer was already smashing records on YouTube as its views now get closer to 200 million.

There’s no telling just how much money GTA VI will make Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games but it’s fair to say that it’s going to make more than most video games ever have. Yet, before GTA VI eventually arrives, GTA V, a game that was initially released in 2013 is still bringing in the money, especially when it comes to GTA Online.

GTA V itself as a single–player game makes serious revenue, but when you throw in GTA Online and its in-game currency Shark Cards, it’s a winning formula for its publisher and developer. Take-Two Interactive could probably just exist with Grand Theft Auto alone and it would still make all the money.

Sadly, despite all the money that Grand Theft Auto generates, not to mention all the other games under the Take-Take Interactive umbrella, the company is not exempt from mass lay-offs as a tactic to increase profit margins and appease its shareholders and directors. It’s been reported that Take-Two Interactive has cut around 5% of its workforce.

GTA VI publisher Take-Two to layoff 5% of its workforce and cancel games,” posted Reddit user technology. It’s also safe to assume that as a result of the cost-cutting tactics, unannounced video games from behind the scenes may have also been cancelled and fans are not happy.

Some fans even discussed the possibility of GTA VI being cancelled in jest but we all know that will never happen and the vast majority of the Reddit thread declared its frustration towards the shareholders.

“You guys aren’t buying enough shark cards,” said a sarcastic DesiredNameWasTaken. “Hi, in other news, Take-Two reported $5.35 billion in annual revenue for 2023, a 52.64% increase from 2022,” exclaimed arcanenoises.

“Why make two games when you can make one with as few employees as possible to make some billionaire richer?” vented forever_a10ne. “Is that why everyone was forced back into the office full-time some time ago? For assessment?” asked Jarkrik.

“This company is about to make billions, they don’t need to lay off anyone,” said moredrinksplease, saying what we’re all thinking. “Guess they need that quarterly report to look good for investors,” replied bigflanders.

No solid release date has been announced for Grand Theft Auto VI but we do know that it will be released in 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. A PC release hasn't been announced, yet.
