The GTA Trilogy The Definitive Edition is not currently available on PC as Rockstar Games admits there were parts of the game included that shouldn’t have been at launch. The developer pulled down its own launcher for a while, which took the GTA Trilogy with it, and although the launcher is now back Rockstar is still stopping PC players from buying or playing the game until it removes some unintentional content.
As reported by Eurogamer, Rockstar has issued a statement explaining that GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is unable to be played on PC as they work on removing content. The post on the support site says: “The Rockstar Games Launcher is now back online. However, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition will remain unavailable to play or purchase as we work to remove some data files that were unintentionally included in the new versions of these games. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and we hope to have the correct versions of the games up and running for everyone as soon as possible.”
Here is the trailer for GTA Trilogy - The Definitive Edition...
There are a lot of modders who took to looking through the game’s files as soon as it was launched and discovered several interesting details which Rockstar now seems to be trying to rectify. For example, Ash_735 on Twitter discovered that all the music that was originally in San Andreas is still in the game, just prevented from playing through code.
So the audio format of choice for the Definitive Editions is OGG-VORBIS! More interesting however, San Andreas contains all the cut music! It's just disabled by script! pic.twitter.com/FBGJINdBYy— Ash R. (@Ash_735) November 11, 2021
Another user, NationalPepper on Twitter says: “I already freaking LOVE definitive edition. They included uncompiled main.scm with dev comments.” They go on to elaborate: “For those who don't understand, it is basically the Holy grail for those, who cares about "behind the scene" stuff. We can see what was cut in the missions/scripts and read Rockstar North's notes from that era.”

Lots of people aren’t enjoying the new edition of the game because it’s glitchy and character models are visibly different and sometimes unfaithful to the original games. There have been plenty of complaints from GTA fans and it’ll be interesting to see how Rockstar responds. Obviously right now they’re trying to remove content from the game that shouldn’t have launched, but how much work is it willing to put in to fix the game as a whole?
