Harry Potter: Daniel Radcliffe has no intention of showing up in HBO reboot

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has shut down rumours that he’ll be making an appearance in the upcoming HBO Max reboot show.

After the monumental success of the books and films, the story of Harry Potter is getting rebooted with a new cast for an HBO show.

Details on the reboot are few and far between, but the series is aiming for a 2025/2026 release date, exclusively for the HBO streaming service. There’s been plenty of rumours and speculation on casting, leading to debate amongst fans on whether previous actors will reprise their roles, or be recast to promote diversity.

Amongst the discussion, many have been wondering if Daniel Radcliffe will be making an appearance in the series, either as a fully-fledged character or merely a cameo appearance. Now, Radcliffe has addressed the rumours, confirmed he has no intention of starring in the reboot.

Speaking in a recent interview with Deadline, Radcliffe said: “I don’t think so, no … Certainly, everything I’ve read about the series they’re starting fresh, so it’d be a bit weird to have me pop in

“I think that Harry Potter was always destined to become like Sherlock Holmes… There’s probably an eight-year-old kid out there whose life is going to change in a couple years, so my brain does go there.”

As nice as it would be to see the likes of Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Stone return to the series, it doesn’t really make much sense for the story, and it’s likely to overshadow the new young actors, as Radcliffe pointed out.

The Harry Potter reboot has caused a lot of backlash from fans, largely due to the controversy surrounding the series creator J.K Rowling and her harmful comments about the trans community. It’s reported Rowling will make over £16 million from the reboot, leading to many claiming they’ll be boycotting the show as a result.
