Harry Potter star Jim Broadbent has backed the creator and author of the franchise, J.K. Rowling and splits the opinion of fans.
J.K. Rowling is a public figure that divides the Wizarding World community, to put it mildly. On one hand, she’s a fierce campaigner for women’s rights. Yet, on the other hand, she’s said some pretty controversial things against the trans community.
Those that stood against J.K. Rowling campaigned to boycott the action RPG Hogwarts Legacy, which even included one of the game developers. What’s more, in a further act of defiance, fans also plan to boycott the recently announced Harry Potter TV series for Max (formerly HBO Max), which will be a reboot of the movies.
However, Jim Broadbent, aged 73 who played Professor Horace Slughorn in the movie series from Warner Bros has leapt to the defence of the Harry Potter author and creator.

Featured in a tweet shared by “radical feminist” Jennifer Gingrich, when speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Broadbent said: “It’s really sad. I think J.K. Rowling is amazing. I haven’t had to confront it myself, but I would support her in that, I think if it came to it.”
Twitter users responding to the post from Gingrich were in support with comments such as “Always loved Jim Broadbent. Now I respect him too,” from @Conviction19c and “Bloody love that man,” said @frankie2001mia.

Of course, with the words Broadbent splitting the opinion of fans, there were those against what he had said too. “Well, this is hugely disappointing. What is it with these old guys?” tweeted @eshelm.
At this time, the Harry Potter TV series doesn't have a release date. Radio Times reports that it’s not expected to arrive until 2025/26. However, it will air on Max in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK.
