Now there are two series you wouldn’t expect to mix, Mortal Kombat and Harry Potter, but somehow here we are. Fans are blasting Warner Bros for including an advert for Hogwarts Legacy in Mortal Kombat 11.
Reddit user kenshima15 was playing Mortal Kombat 11 when they noticed an ad for another Warner Bros published game, Hogwarts Legacy, on the main-menu screen. Safe to say they were surprised and disgusted by Warner Bros’ attempt to sell a completely unrelated AAA game in such a blatant way.
This was made worse by the fact Hogwarts Legacy holds no relevance whatsoever to the fighting-game series, making its inclusion as an advertisement even more bewildering.

kenshima15 shared a screenshot of the advert on Reddit, asking: “Why the hell is there an Ad in a whole fighting game I paid for?? This aint cool. I dont wanna see ads of other products in something I paid full price for…”
Their frustration and confusion was supported by other fans of the series, who were equally perplexed as to why WB would try to sell a completely unrelated game through such an out-of-place ad.
One user said: “It’s a really shorty business practice. If they were promoting mk12 or injustice, I could say whatever, but this is just bulls***”

A second user sarcastically added: “What do you mean you don’t want commercials in your video game? Isn’t it nice to have a giant ad garishly plastered on the top of the main screen?”
Another raised a valid point about the future of advertisements in video games, saying: “They will start with small stuff like this but knowing how most companies want to screw over gamers and squeeze every dollar outta em i bet they’re gonna start putting videos before matches or some s***”
Oddly enough this isn’t the first time ads have crept into games, as a while ago NBA 2K21 received criticism for including full and unskippable advertisements before matches.
Hopefully, shameless adverts in already full-priced games don’t become a trend in future releases, as surely paying for the game you’re already playing should be more than enough.
