Ice-T Is Campaigning For A 'Def Jam: Fight For NY' Remake

Ice-T Is Campaigning For A 'Def Jam: Fight For NY' Remake

'Def Jam: Fight For NY', because we all want to suplex Carmen Electra.

Reading the title you may have many questions knocking around the old noggin'. Questions such as: What is Def Jam: Fight For NY? Isn't it that the wrestling game with Snoop Dog in it? Why does Ice-T want to reboot a PlayStation 2 era fighter? Well read on to have your mind blown.

Def Jam: Fight For NY was the first in a short lived franchise of hip-hop meets fighting games from the early 2000s, which featured the likeness of numerous rappers and hip hop stars of the time. There was a previous Def Jam game which focused only on wrestling, where as Fight For NY spiced it up by having a range of fighting styles.

Think you can play fighting games with your eyes closed? Check out SightlessSenshi, a blind gamer who plays by sound alone.

You want to kickbox with Ludakris? How about practicing martial arts with Lil' Kim? Or fancy streetfighting against Busta Rhymes? Well Def Jam: Fight For NY had you covered. The reason that the game did surprisingly well for a rapper-themed fighting game was that the Def Jam record label was flying high at the time. The game featured almost 70 artists, who were all contracted under the Def Jam label.

There was a PSP port Def Jam Fight For NY: The Takeover which also did generally alright. However, by the time the sequel Def Jam: Icon came out influence was dwindling. Many of the bigger names had moved on, leaving a meager line up of 29 artists now headlined by T.I. Needless to say if you can't suplex Henry Rollins people just didn't want to know.

So while 64 year old Mr Ice-T may promise that a reboot of Def Jam: Fight For NY "would be a huge hit all over again", we wonder what he means. Does he want a reboot with the original cast forcing a 62 year old Flavor Flav to fight in the motion capture booth? Or does he want a game featuring Def Jam's current artists?

Justin Bieber could do mixed martial arts with Rhianna, or maybe Kanye West could do capoeira with LL Cool J? Wait a minute, actually maybe Ice-T is on to something.
