John Carpenter's new zombie game looks like a first-person Days Gone

John Carpenter's new zombie game looks like a first-person Days Gone

John Carpenter's new co-op zombie game Toxic Commando looks like a first-person Days Gone.

When horror movies join forces with the video gaming world, is there a better combination?

At this point, it’s no secret that legendary horror movie maker John Carpenter is a video game enthusiast. In the past, he’s not only shared his passion for Red Dead Redemption but he’s also declared his desire to one day make a Dead Space movie. So surely it’s only a matter of time until Mr Carpenter crosses over his talents into the world of video games, right? Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to get with John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando.

Take a look at the trailer for Toxic Commando below.

Toxic Commando was revealed during Summer Game Fest with Carpenter teaming up with Saber Interactive. Toxic Commando is a co-op FPS and looks to have major World War Z vibes, which should come as no surprise as it's from the same developer, but with a hint of Days Gone.

Set in the near future, our planet has gone to s**t following a failed experiment in which the Earth’s core imploded unleashing an Eldritch abomination known as the Sludge God that turns “soil to scum and the living to undead monsters”. John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando will be playable with up to four players with each variety of character coming with their own skills, abilities and weapons. Players will also be able to combat monsters on foot or plough through them with a vehicle.

“[We're] thrilled to collaborate with the legendary John Carpenter on this project,” said Saber Interactive in a statement. “His unique vision, unparalleled expertise in storytelling, and ability to create immersive atmospheres have helped us to elevate this all-new, 80s-inspired experience to the next level. His works have been an inspiration for years and it's an honour to work alongside him to deliver a truly unforgettable adventure.”

No release date has been announced for John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, but we do know that it’s set to release in 2024 for PC (via Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
