The Last Of Us episode 2 had a genius Uncharted 4 cameo

The Last Of Us episode 2 had a genius Uncharted 4 cameo

The second episode of HBO's The Last of Us series includes a very cool Uncharted 4: A Thief's End easter egg.

I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking that now we’ve seen HBO’s The Last of Us, last year’s Uncharted film feels like a wasted opportunity. Sure, it’s not a terrible film but it’s not exactly great either. If you are an Uncharted fan though, there was a very cool easter egg hidden in this week’s episode of The Last of Us, titled ‘Infected.’

Beware, spoilers lie ahead. Episode two was jam-packed with content. After well over a decade, we now have confirmation that the outbreak started in a flour plant in Jakarta, Indonesia. The show doesn’t pin down who was the first person to become infected, but that air of mystery is scarier if you ask me. Fans are also split over Tess’ kiss of death, as I’m going to call it. It’s actually this scene that contained the Uncharted easter egg but admittedly, you were probably too grossed out by the tendril kiss to notice.

See what’s in store in the season ahead in the trailer below.

During the scene, Tess used a lighter to blow up the Infected-filled Capitol Building but what you may have missed, is that the lighter is the same lighter used by Drake’s brother Sam in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Taking to Twitter, Naughty Dog wrote, “Did Tess's lighter from last night's episode of The Last of Us look familiar? It was modeled after Sam Drake's lighter from Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.”

Franchise co-creator Neil Druckmann then added, “When the props department asked me if there’s any particular design I’d like on Tess’s lighter … I couldn’t help myself. They were kind enough to make an extra one for Sam Drake himself, Troy Baker.” If you didn’t know, although I’m sure you do, in addition to voicing Sam, Troy Baker also voiced Joel in The Last of Us games.

If you’re someone who enjoys spotting easter eggs, there’s a devastating reference to The Last of Us Part II hidden within the premiere episode. I’m sure there will be plenty more scattered throughout the episodes in weeks ahead. Keep your eyes peeled.
