The Last Of Us writer quietly removes his name from Borderlands movie

It seems that the Borderlands movie might be in some trouble.

You will be forgiven if you totally forgot that a Borderlands movie is on the way, after all, it was announced in 2015 and we’re yet to see a trailer.

In terms of what we do know, it will be directed by Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, Inglourious Basterds, Hostel) and it will star the likes of Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, and Jamie Lee Curtis.

“Lilith (Cate Blanchett), an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe's most powerful S.O.B., Atlas,” reads the Borderlands synopsis.

“Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team - Roland (Kevin Hart), a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Florian Munteanu), Tina's musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap (Jack Black), a persistently wiseass robot.

“These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe.”

We also knew that Craig Mazin, the showrunner of HBO’s critically acclaimed Chernobyl and The Last of Us series was on board. As reported by Kotaku, Craig Mazon has quietly removed his name from the Borderlands movie.

Despite a star-studded cast, the signs are not looking good for the project. Earlier this year, Tim Miller (Deadpool, Love, Death & Robots) was brought in to assist Eli Roth with reshoots and now Craig Mazin has detached his name from the movie. It’s not yet known why Mazin has removed his name, but hopefully, details will be revealed in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, we’ll have to just patiently wait for that elusive trailer and release date for Borderlands.
