Following Pedro Pascal’s appearance in a very unhinged Saturday Night Live sketch, some fans think that he’d be the perfect actor to play Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which is releasing later this year.
I for one am very excited about the Mario movie. From what we’ve seen so far, it looks like it’s going to be a lovely time - the animation is gorgeous, with the Mushroom Kingdom looking more vibrant than ever before. The internet has hailed Jack Black as the perfect Bowser, and it’s not hard to see why - it’s clear from the first two trailers that he’s put everything into his role.

On the other hand, SNL’s recent 'Mario Kart' sketch offers a very different vibe. The dystopian parody trailer stars none other than Pedro Pascal as a very serious Mario, who sets out on a quest to smuggle Princess Peach to Rainbow Road. Why does that sound so familiar, I wonder?

Pascal’s deadpan delivery of iconic Mario lines like “it’s-a me” and “let’s-a-go” was hilarious, and has been going down very well online. So well, in fact, that some have suggested that he could take the starring role in the official movie instead of Chris Pratt (thanks, UNILAD).
“It’s not too late to replace Chris Pratt with Pedro Pascal as Mario, right?” questioned @bradwhipple. “Hear me out… we replace Chris Pratt with Pedro Pascal in the Mario movie,” tweeted @Rachel_Conrad.
Obviously, this isn’t going to happen, but if it did, I’d imagine that the film would end up with a significantly higher age rating. Mario might have an M on his cap, but somehow, I don’t think a movie with a rating to match that would go down particularly well.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set to release on 7 April.
