Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is coming way sooner than expected

Did you enjoy last week’s The Game Awards? God of War Ragnarök and Elden Ring swept up the most wins. The problem is, there are so many deserving games that the ceremony is bound to be full of snubs. There just aren’t enough trophies to give away. Horizon Forbidden West fans were upset to see the game come away without a single win. There was a particular snub in the "Most Anticipated Game" category though that caught me by surprise.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom took home the accolade, but I was shocked to discover that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 wasn’t even nominated. The rest of the category was made up by Starfield, Resident Evil 4, Hogwarts Legacy, and Final Fantasy XVI. I suppose updates on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have been a little thin on the ground, but we could be getting one soon. A release date has seemingly leaked online.

Twitter user EvanFilarca spotted that one of the writers working on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Jamie Mayer, had accidentally added a release window for the game to her website. Under the screenwriting credits section, Mayer wrote that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 would be released in September 2023. In the past few hours, "September" has been removed after the supposed leak gained traction online.

Both Marvel’s Spider-Man and Miles Morales shared similar release dates. Insomniac’s original game launched in September 2018, while Miles Morales followed in November 2020 - so this certainly fits with the trend established by the franchise. Seeing as this is the next major PlayStation exclusive, I’d expect that Sony will unveil all in a State of Play at some point in the new year.

We don’t know much about the title yet, but that means developers have been busy perfecting the game. It’s believed that main missions will switch between Parker and Morales, while players will get to choose between the duo in freeplay and side quests. Hopefully, that official update isn’t too far away.
