Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will support 40fps

With Starfield’s launch having come and gone, our attention turns to the year’s next major tentpole release: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is finally set to be released on 20 October. We had the opportunity to go hands-on with the game, writing, “All the pieces are in place for one of the most exciting and high-stakes Spider-Man stories of all time. In short, this is shaping up to be the perfect sequel: bigger, faster, and altogether more spidery than its predecessors.” Insomniac Games has already dropped the game’s map - and it’s absolutely massive - plus fans spotted an extra villain in the latest trailer in the form of Mysterio. Today, we’re hearing that the game is roughly the same length as the original Marvel’s Spider-Man, and that it will support 40fps.

That’s right. In addition to the traditional 30fps and 60fps options, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will also offer players the chance to use a 40fps setting. Speaking on Twitter, community director James Stevenson announced the news. He wrote, “30 fps, 40 fps, and 60fps. All with ray-tracing.”

We commented on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s visual prowess in our preview, stating, “Unlike God Of War Ragnarök, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been built ground-up for the PlayStation 5 and will launch exclusively for the new-gen console. You can tell. New York looks absolutely stunning; a metropolis packed with detail, bustling crowds, and deep orange sunsets that creep through the gaps between buildings and bounce playfully along sky-high towers of glass and metal. Everything feels much more expansive, yet simultaneously denser and full of life.”

Fans have also been left in awe of the game’s instantaneous fast travel and spidey switching, as showcased in a recent trailer. It sounds as if we’re in for a treat.
