Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a fully focused single-player experience, developer confirms

Insomniac Games have confirmed that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a single-player game and will not feature a co-op functionality.

Tomorrow is a big day. That’s right. The PlayStation Showcase is almost upon us. I’m sure it’ll be jam-packed with incredible announcements, but the star of the show surely has to be a release date and gameplay trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is undeniably top of the list for my most-anticipated games of 2023. We know that it’s due to launch in ‘autumn’ (northern hemisphere), with Venom actor Tony Todd teasing a September release date. It’s also been teased by Peter Parker actor Yuri Lowenthal that the game is ‘astonishing’ with PlayStation boss Jim Ryan adding that the game pushes the full capabilities of the PlayStation 5. Just because Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 features dual protagonists though, Peter and Miles, don’t assume that it’s co-op - devs have once more confirmed that the game is strictly single-player.

Take a look at the original teaser trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 below.

Over on Twitter, one user asked about a co-op functionality to which Insomniac Games said, “Nope! It is an epic single-player adventure,” which is exactly what we assumed it would be anyway. It’s nice to have confirmation though. If rumours are to be believed, the main chapters will automatically assign either Peter or Miles, then you’ll be able to pick between the two during side quests and free-roam based sections. This does remain unconfirmed for now.

In case you missed it, a free prequel comic for the game is now available if you want to see what Miles and Peter have been up to since Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. If you haven’t yet played the PS5 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, you can also finally purchase that as a standalone game. It was previously only available in the Ultimate Edition of Miles Morales.

If the leaked September release window is to be believed, we could have Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in our hands in just four months. At least tomorrow, we should finally get some concrete answers.
