Modern Warfare 2 player unmasks Ghost, for real this time

Call of Duty is arguably the most iconic FPS franchise of our time. The series has a vice grip on both its fanbase and the games industry in general - Sony has recently been very concerned about the fact that if Microsoft really does go ahead and buy Activision, CoD could in theory become an Xbox exclusive. Xbox boss Phil Spencer says that this won’t be the case, however.

Anyway, the recent release of Modern Warfare II has been going down incredibly well, as you’d expect. It’s been doing significantly better than Vanguard, which is wholly unsurprising when you consider that that one sold less than spectacularly. However, MWII has also become a hit with a number of totally new fans, for one incredible reason. That reason? They think Ghost is hot.

In case you’ve missed the chaos, on TikTok, Ghost has been undergoing what can only be described as an extreme babygirl-ification. Some have admitted to buying the game just because they fancy him, others have been busy drawing some, uh, incredibly flattering fan art of the guy. Meanwhile, some have provided some hilarious thirsty reactions to his voice lines. All in all, it’s been a wild time - some veteran CoD fans have been quite annoyed about the whole thing.

The funny thing about all this is that, obviously, no one knew what Ghost actually looks like - his newfound burst of popularity is entirely down to his voice and personality. It’s for this reason that I’m unreasonably excited to see how his new fanbase reacts to his actual face, which has now been revealed.

As reported by Eurogamer, dataminer and Reddit user u/Crafty-Astronomer905 claims to have discovered an unmasked Ghost character model in the game’s files. And, well, I’m not quite sure what we expected. It seems as though he’s been modelled after his voice actor, Samuel Roukin, which the series has done for other characters like Captain Price, so that adds up. Take a look for yourself below.

The real question is, will this newfound knowledge spur on the thirsty Ghost fanbase further, or does the removal of his mysterious identity ruin things a bit? We’ll just have to wait and see.
