Modern Warfare 2 sales are up nearly 100% on Call Of Duty: Vanguard

Modern Warfare 2 sales are up nearly 100% on Call Of Duty: Vanguard

Why has it been so successful?

In the UK, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II eclipsed the launch week sales of Call of Duty: Vanguard by an incredible 92 percent, according to recently released data from the sales charts.

The total number of games sold last month was 2.83 million, which is an 11.2 percent increase on October 2022, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II leading the charge. FIFA 23 follows, snagging the silver medal, and Gotham Knights leaps, hurtles and glides into the third spot. Given that Gotham Knights had an uneven reception, like when you microwave your lunch but the spinning plate gets stuck, it's cheering for Rocksteady Studios to see fans support the game.

October's top five is rounded out with Grand Theft Auto V and Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, which we said was "a triumph of IP-twisting fun and frolics."

Returning to Call Of Duty for a moment, it's a turn up for the books for the series with the enviable success of Modern Warfare II. Everyone will buy the newest Call of Duty, sure as eggs is eggs, but not everyone is happy about it once the hype starts to settle. In the case of Modern Warfare II, players are anticipating the shiny new raids that continue the single-player storyline in special ops missions, and have even asked Activision to allow them early access to all future campaigns as a series standard.

Call Of Duty: Vanguard pales in comparison for several possible reasons. Vanguard came out in an already crowded November 2021, competing with Battlefield 2042, Forza Horizon 5, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition, and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy: Definitive Edition to name a few. Then, there's the fact that Modern Warfare 2019 is thought to be one of the stronger entries in the series and a continuation of Task Force 141's story was almost assuredly going to excite the community. Activision itself acknowledged that Vanguard missed the mark on many fronts, citing a "lack of innovation." The tide's definitely turned now.
