Mortal Kombat 1 fans furious as game charges for new Fatality

*Mortal Kombat Voice* CAPITALISM

Mortal Kombat is known for its fatalities. For much of the series' history players have flocked to the fighter to watch the match ending death scenes get more and more brutal.

Mortal Kombat 1 was doing pretty well for itself as it garnered a lot of critical praise and fans were loving the refreshed fighting and new story. However, charging money for seasonal fatality has left a bad taste in the mouths of many.

Mortal Kombat 1 has started receiving pop culture crossovers

News came via some in-game patch notes that referenced "Halloween Fatality added to the Premium Store" and, of course, fans reacted with anger and frustration. At first, nobody could find the Fatality on the store and assumed it was a mistake, until it was clarified by the WB Games Support on Twitter. They confirmed the patch notes saying "The Halloween Fatality will be featured in the Premium Shop at a later date, we expect this to be Friday (10/27)."

Conversation spilled over to Reddit where fans slammed the decision. A user named u/FistoPuncherelli said "People really need to vote with their wallets and not buy this, or it'll set a really bad precedent." Another user, u/Nagu360 said "What is the point of Seasonal Koins if very seasonal goodies like this are going to the f**king premium currency?"

Many are complaining that features such as new Fatalities should come as part of seasonal currency purchases or for free, seeing as many spent £70 or over buying the game initially.

"Pretty disgusting, way less content than prior games , more expensive kombat pack , and pushing out more pay for premium stuff …. Ugh" said u/Val1crist in reply. Whether Warner Bros and NetherRealm roll this back is yet to be seen, but it's clear the community aren't happy and are fearful that this is just the first step towards monetising so many more game mechanics.
