Modern Warfare 2's most-requested feature not coming till 2023

Modern Warfare 2's most-requested feature not coming till 2023

The highly requested ranked play won't be arriving in Modern Warfare II until 2023, it's been confirmed.

Just as we suspected, Modern Warfare II has succeeded in impressing fans - far more so than last year’s underwhelming Vanguard. The release of MWII marks Activision’s most successful Call of Duty launch ever. Fans are praising the “incredible” campaign, one particularly creative map and most of all, the new anti-camping tool.

This time around, it looks like developers are really listening to fans. Based on player feedback, devs are hard at work overhauling the game’s UI. I think it’s fair to say it’s a return to form for the franchise yet there is one highly-requested feature that, disappointingly, won’t arrive until 2023.

There’s plenty to keep you busy in Modern Warfare II but if you’re waiting for Treyarch to add ranked play, that’s not due to arrive until 2023. Over on Twitter, Treyarch announced that ranked play would include competitive modes, ranked skill divisions, visible skill ratings, a top 250 leaderboard, and competitive rewards. More details are due out in the near future.

Treyarch went on to note that, “As Ranked Play moves forward, we'll begin retiring Black Ops Cold War League Play and Vanguard Ranked Play this month. Players should grab their remaining rewards by 22 Nov in both titles.” They continued, “The success of these modes has directly contributed to the future of Ranked Play. We sincerely thank you for all the data, feedback, and time played that was collected over the past two years. We look forward to sharing more soon.”

‘Soon’ can be an infuriating word but hey, at least we know ranked play is coming. In the meantime, let’s not forget that MWII’s first season kicks off on 16 November, which also happens to be the day Warzone 2.0 arrives. Busy busy.
