The beginning of the new, rebooted DCU slate has finally been announced, and there’s plenty for fans to be excited about.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who was a little concerned about the future of Superman - in a shock announcement, it was confirmed last year that Henry Cavill will not be reprising his role as the man of steel in the “initial stages” of the DCU. As reported by Radio Times, this Superman reboot without Cavill has now been officially announced and named, as well as a couple of new Batman projects.
Before we get into it, take a look at this seriously creepy deleted scene from The Batman below.
According to DC Studios co-chairperson Peter Safran, Superman: Legacy will be the “start of the DCU”, and is currently set to release on 11 July 2025. Superman’s new actor for the film hasn’t been announced yet, but as for the plot, Safran said: “It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old-fashioned.”

There’s even more to be excited for for Batman fans. A new Batman and Robin movie, titled The Brave and the Bold, will explore the story of the caped crusader and his son, Damian Wayne, who DC Studios’ other co-chairperson, James Gunn, described as his “favourite Robin”. This film will mark the “beginning of the Bat family in the DCU”, and will star a different actor as Batman.
Finally, at long last, The Batman Part II has a release date. Fear not, despite there being a new Batman in The Brave and the Bold, Robert Pattinson will be reprising his role in this one. It’s set to hit cinemas on 3 October 2025 (thanks, Variety), so there’s still quite a wait ahead.
How about that? This barely scratches the surface of everything announced - a number of DCU TV series were also confirmed, including Paradise Lost, Booster Gold and Waller.
