DC: James Gunn finds his new Superman and Lois

DC: James Gunn finds his new Superman and Lois

James Gunn has officially confirmed the two lead roles for the upcoming Superman: Legacy film.

DC Studios' James Gunn has officially confirmed the two lead roles for the upcoming Superman: Legacy film.

Following his work with Marvel on the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, James Gunn moved over to DC Studios to become its new creative lead, alongside Peter Safran. The duo will be kicking off a brand new cinematic universe, starting with a new Superman film, titled Superman: Legacy.

Blue Beetle is set to release this August.

Fans have been relentlessly theorising about who might become the next Man of Steel, with many still holding out hope for Henry Cavill’s return to the character. Other fan picks were Tyler Hoechlin, who plays Superman in the CW show Superman & Lois, as well as Michael B. Jordan.

Finally, the wait is over, as James Gunn officially confirmed reports that David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan have been cast as Superman and Lois Lane in the upcoming film. Gunn shared the good news on Twitter, saying: “Accurate! (They are not only both incredible actors, but also wonderful people).”

Corenswet is best known for appearing in Pearl (2022), House of Cards (2013-2018), and Elementary, whereas Brosnahan is best known for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017-2023), Unborn (2009), and Beautiful Creatures (2013). Superman: Legacy is still in very early development, but is said to be a new take on the character. Unlike previous Superman films like Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel, Superman: Legacy will not be an origin story for the character, instead focusing on Clark Kent balancing his normal life with his responsibilities as a hero, as well as one of the last Kryptonians.

The new DCU slate will be split into different chapters, with the first chapter being Gods and Monsters, which aims to set up some of the more prominent characters in the DC universe, like Superman, Batman and Justice League Dark member, Swamp Thing.

It’s a new dawn for the DC universe and while I’ll miss Henry Cavill’s Superman, it’ll be exciting to see what David Corenswet brings to the role.
