New Battlefield officially teased by EA, but fans aren't convinced

EA have begun teasing a 'reimagined' Battlefield, but fans of the franchise aren't yet convinced.

EA have finally begun teasing their next Battlefield game, but fans say that the publisher has a lot of convincing to do after the buggy mess that was Battlefield 2042.

You all know how the story unfolded by now. Battlefield 2042 was riddled with bugs and glitches upon release. While some of these were a tad funny, some were very serious indeed - with one even prompting a seizure warning. Insiders claimed that EA and DICE released Battlefield 2042 with a ton of content missing, so it’s no surprise really that the player count very rapidly dropped. Since then, a bunch of patches, updates, and fixes have been implemented and the game is in a much better state, but it’s hard to forget how Battlefield 2042 started its life - especially when it comes to thinking about the next instalment in the franchise.

Take a look at some of our favourite Battlefield 2042 wins and fails below.

As reported by ComicBook, during an earnings call, EA announced that a new Battlefield game would not be released during the 2024 fiscal year. For context, the fiscal year should run from April 2023 to April 2024. That means we could see the next game land in the latter half of next year, which matches previous rumours and the franchise’s typical release schedule.

EA went on to add that the next Battlefield will be a “reimagination” of the franchise, with the publisher wanting to create a “truly connected ecosystem”, whatever that means. EA are certainly keeping their cards close to their chest, but it’s no surprise that they’re trying to shake off the series’ negative reputation. It undeniably needs new life breathing into it. If the next instalment doesn’t solidly run, I do wonder if that’ll spell the end for Battlefield.

Fans certainly need convincing by EA. “Do we really need a reimagination? I just want a good game,” one Twitter user wrote. “God, I’m already stressed just reading this,” said another. “Do you really expect us to forget what happened with Battlefield 2042? Really?” one comment read. The ball’s in your court EA.
