New Ghost Recon in development at Ubisoft, insider teases

New Ghost Recon in development at Ubisoft, insider teases

Rumours abound that Ghost Recon is coming back

Rumours are once again swirling from industry insiders that Ubisoft are working on a sequel in one of their most popular franchises.

The news originally came out a while back but the industry is abuzz that a game is in development at Ubisoft called 'Project Over' and it's apparently a new entry in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series. Which would not only be great for fans of the series, but it would also give Ubisoft a chance to redeem the franchise after a couple of not so stellar entries.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series is a renowned as Rainbow Six, but has been languishing for a while now

Now, we'll preface this with a pinch of salt because industry insiders aren't always right, but there is enough of a want from the gaming public that this is likely something that Ubisoft is working on. The source here is a very reliable one in Tom Henderson and though he commented on the news, he had nothing more to share.

Given the vast success of Rainbow Six Siege, an injection of adrenaline for the Ghost Recon series could bring the series up to its cousin and even find a new audience as it has been four years since the last game. Though it's always worth noting that things at Ubisoft aren't always reliable and they're a company known for testing ideas and leaving them languishing. You only need look to Splinter Cell to see that.

However, once upon a time, Ghost Recon was a tentpole series for the developer, along with Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell. Should Ubisoft bring back Ghost Recon it could be the first step in a path that would bring them back to a place of success for fans, especially with the new Prince of Persia coming soon, too.
