If you were hoping that the upcoming Batman reboot was going to be a return to the camp fun of the Adam West era, you’re bang out of luck. If the previous two trailers hadn’t already given the movie’s tone away, The Batman’s official plot synopsis confirms that Robert Pattinson’s debut as the caped crusader is set to be an angry and deeply brutal mystery adventure.
Releasing in March 2022, The Batman is a brand-new take on the character not related to the wider DCEU. While it’s not an origin story, it is set during Bruce Wayne’s early years as Batman, and will see him engaged in a deadly game of cat and mouse with a masked serial killer known as Riddler (Paul Dano).

"Robert Pattinson delivers a raw, intense portrayal of Batman as a disillusioned, desperate vigilante awakened by the realization that the anger consuming him makes him no better than the ruthless serial killer he's hunting."

Director Matt Reeves previously described The Batman as a noir mystery, while those who have attended early test screenings tease it as a full-blown detective thriller. Honestly, I’m not sure a Batman movie has ever really leaned into the detective side of Batman (aka The World’s Greatest Detective), so I’m pretty damn stoked to see him solve clues and track down Riddler.
