'Obi-Wan Kenobi' Fan Edits Series Into Much-Improved 2.5 Hour Movie

'Obi-Wan Kenobi' Fan Edits Series Into Much-Improved 2.5 Hour Movie

One fan has created their own cut of Obi-Wan Kenobi, believing the series to be "easily fixable."

In retrospect, I hugely enjoyed Obi-Wan Kenobi but I certainly agree with the general sentiment. The show began and ended with strong chapters, yet it was let down by its meandering middle.

A second season could be on the way, so let’s hope the show has learned from its weaknesses but in the meantime, fans have been taking matters into their own hands. Just a few weeks ago, one fan de-aged Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker, and now another has edited the six-part series into a 2.5 hour movie - and the end result is very impressive.

Star Wars: Andor debuts on Disney+ on 31 August. Check out the trailer below.

The project is the work of TikTok creator Kai Patterson who believed in the essence of Obi-Wan Kenobi but felt that the series “suffered from things that were easily fixable in the script and in the edit.” Patterson added that the series featured “awkward pacing, whole scenes that ultimately amounted to nothing, goofy dialogue and directing choices.”

The so-called Obi-Wan Kenobi: The Patterson Cut is available to view on Patterson’s own website. Patterson has edited out approximately 3.5 hours so it’s impossible to mention every change but Reva’s role is significantly reduced, the Luke and Reva subplot is removed, the Leia kidnapping scene is reworked and subtle changes are made to Obi-Wan’s final face-off with Vader.

If you’re wondering about the legal validity, Patterson asks that fans only watch his cut if they’re Disney Plus subscribers as he wants to be sure he’s “supporting all the original artists on this show by not letting this become a means of pirating.” The edit has its own issues, but it certainly provides for a compelling experience and is definitely worth checking out.
