Welcome back, commander! EA and Westwood Studios' long-awaited Command & Conquer remaster finally has a release date, and it's coming soon. Very soon. The snappily titled Command & Conquer Remastered Collection is bringing back the fan-favourite real-time strategy series for Windows PC (Steam and Origin) on June 5th.

As the name suggests, the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection includes two games. Expect lovingly accurate recreations of 1995's Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn and 1996's Command & Conquer: Red Alert. We'll also be getting expansion packs Covert Ops, Counterstrike, and The Aftermath.

Developer Petroglyph has been handling the remasters alongside EA. While we've only really been getting updates in dribs and drabs until now, EA has dropped an in-depth trailer that gives us a look at the upcoming collection in all its glory. You can take a look at that below.

Command & Conquer Remastered Collection was originally announced back in 2018, and fans have waited patiently for news of a release date ever since. The updated RTS will feature all things you'd expect from a modern remaster, including 4K, overhauled multiplayer, a remastered score, and an improved UI. Even those brilliantly cheesy live action segments have been remastered.

It's certainly clear from the new trailer that Petroglyph is committed to getting the look and feel of the remasters just right. This commitment actually extended to working alongside a community of fans on various quality of life improvements, according to lead producer Jim Vessella.

"The community was eager to see us overhaul the Sidebar UI, and incorporate elements from Red Alert 2 and C&C 3," Vessella told PC Gamer. "Including tabs, extra slots, and hotkeys to help prevent the need for excessive scrolling. This community insight gave us the validation to make that decision with confidence, which we then further refined with the community council throughout the course of development."

In addition to working with the community, Petroglyph even enlisted some old friends who worked on the original game all those years ago. Late last year, the studio invited the game's original announcer to re-record a bunch of lost lines in an effort to fully capture an authentic C&C experience. A fabulous touch that'll be appreciated by many, I've no doubt.

Vasella also briefly touched on another massively requested feature: mod support. While mods won't be supported at launch, there is a chance they could be added somewhere down the line, though Vasella couldn't announce anything just yet. Until such time as mods appear, players will be able to make use of a shiny new map editor and share their creations on Steam and Origin. All that's left to do now is wait, then.
