Mark your diaries, PC-playing fans of toppling robo-dinosaurs in a post-apocalyptic open-world, because the forthcoming home-computers port of the former PlayStation 4 exclusive, Horizon Zero Dawn, now has itself a release date.

Guerrilla Games' well-reviewed and big-selling title comes to the Epic Games Store and Steam on August 7th, still published by Sony - so there's only another month for PC gamers to wait, to get their hands on this much-loved adventure.

The Complete Edition of the game - which is what PC players are getting - includes the base game of 2017 as well as its meaty expansion, The Frozen Wilds. Also included in the bundle is a digital art book - which is nice, as this game really is a looker - and a bunch of weapons and outfits to dress protagonist Aloy in, which were previously PS4 pre-order bonuses.

And this being a PC release, and a relatively high-end one at that, you can bet your bottom, um, DRAM (look, I don't know PCs) that there's the option of an unlocked frame rate. Also included are some other graphical options, as well as support for widescreen monitors.

There's a new trailer for the PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn, which should whet the appetite some. Check it out, below.

I played many hours of HZD across 2017 and 2018, including its icy DLC, but IMO it's not in the same league as contemporary open-worlders like The Witcher 3 and Zelda: Breath of the Wild. To me it just felt... fine? Fun to play, and really pretty, but it's not really pushing the genre anywhere new. Enjoyably box-ticking, but box-ticking nonetheless. But its Metascore of 89 and user score of 8.4 suggests I may be in a minority there.

I did love - and still do love - the backstory of the game, though, so be sure to pay attention to the various audio logs and flashbacks if you're playing this one for the first time on PC. I'd really, really love to see a future Horizon series entry explore the Earth just before it became what we see in this first game - and that we'll see more of in its PS5-bound sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, which was shown off in June alongside the PlayStation 5 itself. It's said to have practically no loading screens - which is, I guess, a thing for some people? (What if I like loading screens?)

Not that I can say anything more on why I'd love to see that prequel-style game, though, Because Spoilers. But let's just say that the story of these gigantic robot creatures is, to me, just as fascinating (and devastating, and exciting) as the struggle for survival that the game's human characters go through.
