'Overwatch 2' Reportedly Coming To BlizzCon, Will Feature PvE Story Missions

Mercy me.

Overwatch has only just arrived on Nintendo Switch, but it seems that Blizzard's massively popular class-based hero shooter and 2016 game of the year is finally getting a sequel - at least if a new report from ESPN is to be believed.

ESPN claims to have obtained a training document for the upcoming BlizzCon 2019 from a verified source, which purportedly all but confirms that we'll be seeing the grand unveiling of Overwatch 2 during the event, which kicks off November 1.

According to the document, Overwatch 2 will boast a large-scale PvE expansion with a focus on narrative-driven missions, featuring in-game items and hero talents. This mode will includes one mission that offers a "four-player story experience set in Rio de Janeiro."

This will all be shown off during BlizzCon, according to report, and we can also apparently expect details on a new progression system, new maps and at least one brand new hero at the event.

There's also talk of a new PvP mode called Push, which will make use of a new map set in Toronto, Canada. Exactly what this mode entails remains to be seen, but the report suggests that both Push and the new PvE mode will be playable at BlizzCon, so we don't have long to wait to get the juicy details.

I'd always advise you to take any such reports with a pinch of salt until official details come through, but this is looking fairly legit, in my humble opinion. Pretty much everything ESPN has claimed seems to line up with a Kotaku report from back in June, which claimed that Blizzard had cancelled work on a StarCraft FPS in favour of Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4.

On the subject of Diablo 4,it very much looks like we can expect to see that announced during BlizzCon, too. A German magazine called GameStar, recently ran an ad for a Diablo artbook which reads: 'Featuring over 500 artworks from Diablo, Diablo 2, Diablo 3 and Diablo 4'. Oopsie.

This also lines up with comments made by a leaker with a proven track record of BlizzCon announcements, who claimed that we'll be seeing Diablo 4 and a Diablo 2 remaster.

Given the intense PR nightmare that Blizzard has managed to rain down on itself over the past few weeks, it certainly would make sense for the company to unleash news of some truly huge titles in an effort to calm the waters somewhat. Whether or not such a tactic will work remains to be seen, however.
