The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the finest video games of all time, and one of those titles that I genuinely think everybody needs to try at least once. The good news is that GOG is currently giving away copies of The Witcher 3 on PC for free! The bad news? You need to actually own a copy of the open world RPG on another platform to claim this freebie.

To get hold of this free(ish) title, you need to download GOG Galaxy 2.0 and connect it to the platform where you already own The Witcher 3. The game will then appear in your GOG Galaxy 2.0 library, complete with any progress and achievements you'd already made on the device you'd been playing the game on.

To clarify, this promotion only applies to people who own the game on PS4 or Xbox One. That's kind of a bummer for Switch users, especially since the Nintendo version supports cross-save on PC. The jump in visual quality between Switch and PC is probably the largest too, so it would've been cool for people who've only ever played the game on the Nintendo console to see it in a new light.

I'm sure some of you might be wondering what the point of a free PC copy is, especially if you already own the game on console. Of course, it never hurts to have a backup, and PC is probably the best way to experience The Witcher 3. At the risk of starting any console vs PC arguments, PC supports more options to tweak and improve the graphics until the game is so beautiful that looking at it is like staring into the sun.

There are also the delicious possibilities opened up by being able to mod the game beyond all recognition. Yeah, it's definitely worth it. I currently own The Witcher 3 on Switch, Xbox One, and PS4, so I'd definitely jump at the chance to get in on this... if I had a PC that wouldn't immediately burst into flames upon loading up the game.

Having said that, even if you don't currently have a PC, you should probably claim the game now if you can. After all, you don't have to install it right away, and once you've claimed it, it's yours. If you're feeling generous, maybe you could even share with a friend who's never played the game before? You've got until June 23rd at 12pm BST to get in on this before the offer is gone, so hustle.
