The Witcher 3 major free expansion officially launching this month

Witcher? I hardly know her!

The Witcher 3 - a video game I have played more times than I care to admit right now - is preparing to launch a brand-new expansion that is going to pull me right back in again.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a game that I've played across PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One X, and PlayStation 5. But with the impending launch of a new expansion that promises to completely change how we play the game, I fear I'm headed straight back in.

I probably don't need to tell you that modders are basically angels sent by the gods to keep classic games alive with all manner of stunning and imaginative new content. Some of them also spend all their energy making realistic nipples and boobs that jiggle, but I choose to focus on the less salacious mods.

There are already plenty of mods for The Witcher 3, but as of 21 May we can start enjoying official support from CD Projekt RED.

Look at the modding scene for a game like Skyrim, and you'll probably see why this is so exciting. This opens up a whole new world for The Witcher 3 modding community, making things like new quests, weapons, expansion-sized mods, more possible.

CD Projekt wrote on social media: "Mark your calendars: The Witcher 3 REDkit, an extensive mod editor based on the game’s engine, releases on May 21st, 2024! It will be available for free for everyone who owns The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PC."

Alas, console gamers will not be able to experience the joy of The Witcher 3 mods, but what else is new? As someone who recently picked up a Steam deck, I look forward to sinking yet another 100 hours into a heavily modded version of one of the best video games of all time.
