Baldur’s Gate 3 developer, Larian Studios, is currently discussing a DLC expansion, which would make an already enormous game even bigger.

Since its release on PC, Baldur’s Gate 3 has topped the charts on Metacritic, becoming the best-rated game of this year, as well as the tenth highest-rated game of all time.

Fans and critics have praised the game for its storytelling, which takes inspiration from Dungeons & Dragons to give players complete freedom over how they build their character and interact with the world.

Players have taken that freedom and ran miles with it, with everyone’s playthrough seemingly being unique. So far, players have started speedruns to have sex with as many characters as possible, including the infamous bear and squid-like Mind Flayers, committed horrifying NPC killing-sprees, and even blitzed through a 200-hour game in 10 minutes.

Given its critically acclaimed reception, it’s only natural that fans want more, and have regularly been asking the developer if it plans to create DLC expansions for the game. Now, fans have been given hope as Larian Studios senior product manager Tom Butler told IGN the team is currently discussing the possibility of DLC, saying they’re “genuinely [having] discussions."

Unfortunately, that’s all they had to say on the subject, as right now the team is hard at work on additional ports of the game. A PlayStation 5 version will be released on 6 September and will experience no last-minute delays according to the devs. Its release date actually makes the game a direct competitor to Xbox’s exclusive title Starfield, which releases on the same day.

Speaking of Xbox, following concerns the console's version of the game would be pushed back to 2024 following hardware issues with the Xbox Series S, it turns out Baldur's Gate 3 will release in 2023 after all, though it doesn’t have a release date yet. It’s actually made history as the first Xbox Series X/S game to break Microsoft’s console parity agreement, as the title will lack the split-screen co-op feature on the Xbox Series S.

Once Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on all planned systems, then the team at Larian Studios will consider starting development on DLC expansions.
